KUALA LUMPUR SITY

Kuala Lumpur, meaning a muddy confluence, had its origins as a shanty mining outpost for the tin trade in the 1800's at that confluence of the Gombak and Klang rivers. Today, KL as it is popularly known, is a bustling metropolis, the principal center of trade and commerce, banking and finance, information technology, politics, entertainment and international activities.

Grand Kuala Lumpur, also known as Klang Valley, is an urban agglomeration of 7.2 million inhabitants. This is the fastest growth in the metropolitan region of the country in terms of population and economy. Kuala Lumpur is the seat of the Federal Parliament of Malaysia. The city was once the residence of the center of the federal executive and judicial powers, but they have moved to Putrajaya starting in 1999. Some sections of the judiciary remain in the capital.
